purple star

Satellite High School is proud to announce its designation as a Purple Star School, a prestigious recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. Located near Patrick Space Force Base, our school community takes immense pride in fostering an inclusive environment where the unique needs of military families are understood and honored.

The Purple Star designation highlights Satellite High’s dedication to ensuring military-connected students experience a smooth transition into our school. Initiatives such as dedicated staff training, student-led peer programs, and accessible resources for military families reflect our commitment to making every student feel at home.

“Working towards this designation was an effort worth making because it’s the right thing to do,” said Mrs. Donna Adams, a school counselor at Satellite High and the school’s military family point of contact. Speaking from her experience as a military spouse who moved all over the globe with her four children to various base installations, Mrs. Adams added, “We want to acknowledge and honor not just the sacrifices made by service members, but also those made by their families. I know firsthand what it’s like for military families transitioning schools at all grade levels. Anything we can do to support military children in our schools—and their families—we want to do that for them.”

This recognition solidifies Satellite High’s standing as a leader in supporting military-connected students, reinforcing our motto: “Sting ‘Em, Scorps!”

About the Purple Star School Program

The Purple Star School program, established to ease educational challenges faced by military families, requires schools to meet rigorous criteria. These include appointing a military liaison, maintaining a dedicated page on the school website with military-specific resources, and providing staff training on the needs of military-connected students.

A District-Wide Commitment

Satellite High is part of a broader movement in Brevard County. A total of 92 schools within the district have received the Purple Star designation, making Brevard County one of the most supportive school districts for military families in the state. This collective achievement underscores the region’s commitment to ensuring that military children and their families receive the support and resources they deserve.

As a school and a district, we stand united in our dedication to the success and well-being of our military-connected students. Congratulations to our Scorpions and to all Brevard County schools for this remarkable achievement!
